2017 LOCAL TREKS

kranji Trail

On 18th November 2017, we embarked on a mini-adventure to explore the countryside of Singapore: Kranji. We spent the afternoon trekking through historical places and discovering the beauty of nature. Our first stop was Kranji War Memorial Park which stood on top of a mini hill, allowing us a top view glimpse of Singapore. The participants got to explore around and see the architecture of the place, designed to pay respect to soldiers from all over the world who have contributed their service. Next, we trekked to Sungei Buloh while passing through Kranji reservoir park. At Sungei Buloh, we rediscover the swamp side of Singapore, hoping to observe rare migratory birds. It was a good time spent in nature, away from the books

urban track

We held our final trek of 2017 on 29th December: an urban trek around the heartlands of Singapore! We started off the trek in Gardens by the Bay to view some of the Christmas illuminations and walked along the Singapore River, enjoying the hustle and bustle of the city along the way. We then escaped the crowd into the serene Fort Canning Park, and finally ended off our trek in Orchard Road. While the word ‘trek’ is often associated with nature, this urban trek showed us that there is still beauty to be found within the concrete jungle of Singapore

Labrador Park

The 38th Rovers Committee started their first local urban-nature trek at the Labrador Nature Reserve. We visited Labrador Battery and Labrador Jetty, which remains as a scenic rest point today. Moving along, we passed by Dragon’s Teeth Gate (Long Ya Men), before transitioning into an urban trek. Majestic views of the urban landscape greeted us as we crossed Berlayer Creek and Bukit Chemin Boardwalk, before adventuring along Keppel Bay, and ending off at Keppel Island.
